Solar Roadways: The Prototype

Posted under solar panel power by soloarpowerhomeadmin

The Solar Roadways project is working to pave roads with solar panels that you can drive on. Co-founder Scott Brusaw has made some major steps forward since our first visit back in 2007, so we visited him again for an exclusive update on the project, including the first ever video recorded of the Solar Roadways prototype! For more information visit www.solarroadways.com . This Solar Roadway project is highlighted as one of many planet-friendly solutions in the feature film by YERT - Your Environmental Road Trip. 1. genanmer Said,

This is great. I wonder how well these roadways would be able to recycle artificial lighting. Most roads remain artificially lit during the night afterall.

  2. 33smojo Said,

@hiddeninja scarcity. as in not enough for everyone. this is a farce. once we utilize free energy in every sector of our lives, then life begins. we’re not living right now.

  3. hiddeninja Said,

this will never happen, people will find a way to fuck this up and take the solar panals underneath for their own pirated use.

    Thanks for uploading!!!1

@lordkory That’s what prisoners are for. Have them build and clean, not cause more trouble.

  6. phxgreenspan Said,

Make tent city mobile across the nation. Make prisoners build solar roads and plant trees along side them and upkeep them. Let’s make a better future, not keep the same self-efficating prophecy our nation lives off of… Plant My Seed dot org

  8. lordkory Said,

@DarthViper3k He states that this process is not 100% efficient, meaning that there will be a build up of grime and dirt that cannot be fully removed. If it takes 2 years instead of 1 year for them to lose efficiency, its still going to add up and have a cost that is way too high.

And street sweepers normally just clean the gutters, not entire street surfaces. Regular lane closures will have to occur to clean the streets, slowing traffic, and causing economic harm that outweighs any savings.

  9. DarthViper3k Said,

@hot1cold0 if people were thinking outside the box.. the Roman Empire would’ve had an industrial revolution. Imagine where we’d be today with that thought

  10. DarthViper3k Said,

@lordkory He addressed this point on his website. Also… we have something called a street sweeper already

  11. lordkory Said,

Uh… big problem. These are going to get covered with mud, dust, dirt, oil, and tire residue. All that will kill the efficiency. This sounds like a lofty idea, but is going to fail for cost / practicality reasons.

  12. FiftyNineNinetyFour Said,

This fantastic idea restores my faith in humanity. Seriously! If you’re depressed from all the Congressional bickering, watch this movie and rejuvenate!

  13. hot1cold0 Said,

@AYoungPragmatis lol okay so your gonna make sure there’s thinking inside the box… yeah I leave it with that

  14. AYoungPragmatist Said,

@hot1cold0 I’ll be more open to the idea of thinking outside the box when I’ve been convinced there’s thinking going on inside of it.

  15. AYoungPragmatist Said,

@deszczyn Look up refraction. Despite the texture, most like will still get through.

  16. AYoungPragmatist Said,

@deszczyn Silicon solar cells, the least efficient kind, pay for themselves in 30 years. If you make the roads durable, they can pay for themselves. If we went all out on this, production of them would go up, and prices would drop. Not to mention technology improvements in efficiency.

  17. deszczyn Said,

@hot1cold0 solar panels don t collect nearly enough energy to pay for the costs of this.

  18. deszczyn Said,

@methodamericon once you increase the traction the texture won t let enough light through, why can t you just build this somewhere else than a road? This could only be effective if for some reason the cost of making asphalt roads was higher than these led panels.

  19. hot1cold0 Said,

I love to see comments that say it won’t work it’s too expensive (even though it pays for itself) just think ppl said those same things about vehicles, electricity, flight, all the way back to the world being flat everyone needs to start thinking outside the box if we all did imagine how much greater and far in technology today’s generation would be it’s unbelievable

  20. tashtan1 Said,

First research that actually makes sense. I love it.

  21. WindPowerKits Said,

    Kick Glass Man!

  22. don1559 Said,

why i would leave huge vacant areas and go to road to put my solar panels where cars step on them , i know u r trying to solve double problem of energy and roads in one step but i think it’s not the best approach

  23. 818cps Said,

Stop while you can. It will never happen.

  24. azizbhai Said,

@Zoidberg227 well im not one who knows much about this but if the vehicles are electric and have a battery on board then wouldnt that be more than enough for anyone to go ‘off-road’ for a certain amount of time, less than fossil fuels yes but even that has a time limit. there can also be many small power stations for people all over the place, that should solve it right?

  25. MadCanada597 Said,

add some piezoelectric crystals to that, so as you drive over it, it produces electricity, and youve got lots of power.
