Bay of Fundy Weather: Typical Coastal Climate

Posted under environment by Jim Fullerton

The weather is popular subject in talks overheard around the Bay of Fundy. Locals love to discuss the weather, probably since the Bay of Fundy’s coastal climate is so tough to forecast. Visitors must be aware that the Bay of Fundy is a four season destination.

Winter (December-March)

Throughout the winter temperatures may range from -10 C to 4 C (14 F to 40 F). Daytime temperatures are usually hotter and temperatures start to warm up near the end of the season. Snow is likely during the season. Many seasonal tourism attractions and services are closed during the winter months. However, the winter remains a unique time to visit the Bay of Fundy. Many events, urban entertainment, accommodations, spas, shopping, museums, and winter activities (snow shoeing, snowboarding, skiing, and snowmobiling for example) remain available for wintertime visitors.

Spring (March -June)

During the spring temperatures may range from -5 C to 22 C (23 F to 72 F). Daytime temperatures are often hotter. Temperatures steadily warm up as the season advances and by the end of April the winter’s snow is often gon. By May the plants and trees begin to bloom. The majority or tourism related attractions and services are open by the first of May.

Summer (June-September)

During the summer temperatures may range from 10 C to 25 C (50 F to 77 F). Daytime temperatures are typically hotter. Nearing the end of the season temperatures start to cool down. All tourism related attractions and services are open and going full tilt in the summer (apart from the ski hills of course).

Fall (September-December)

During the fall temperatures can range from approximately 2 C to 20 C (36 F to 68 F). Temperatures during the day are typically warmer. Trees start to turn color in early October and they will lose their leaves by the end of October. Temperatures cool down as the season progresses. Odds of snow in this season become more likely in late November and in December. The bulk of tourism related attractions and services remain open till mid or late October.
