Solar panels performance during a rain storm! Solar power test DIY

Posted under solar panel power by soloarpowerhomeadmin

Solar panels performance during a rain storm! Solar power test DIY I have 3 x 20 watt Solar Panels on my roof. I average 45-70 watts depending on how strong the sun is. I always wondered how well the solar panels would perform in 20-40% of its rated ideal light. Check out how my Solar Panels perform in a serious rain storm! I hook it to solar lights, and a servo motor for testing. It sure looks like Solar panels produce a good deal of electric even in the rain! Please let me know your thoughts and experience with solar power & wind power. I hope you enjoy this video. -Pete mixcatcom Mixcat.com

With no battery during a storm? What’s the large encasement metal tube to the right? Grid backup?

  2. Films4You Said,

2:25 light from out site=light to inside

Sounds like quite a lot of Watts almost upto 100W

  3. SunGreenSolarEnergy Said,

There’s been a lot of news recently about sunspots and solar flares. I was wondering if these have any effect on solar power systems? Do they create more electricity than normal during solar activity?

  4. 77wimmut Said,

Was it lightning while you were testing? In Florida rain is usually accompanied by lightning.

  5. kennethvanhorn Said,

take those panels and put them in the basement.first you take a parabolic solar concentrator and put an robotic arm on it to follow the suns path.then make the focal point a mirrored shape cone that will send the light down through mirrored glass tubing straight into a mirrored shape glass box inside the mirrored shape box will be several solar panels that spin to keep them cool the mirrored box must have the mirrors inward to reflect the light sending from the parabolic focal point.ken van horn

Are you batteries vented? They release a toxic gas when chargingl

Very helpful glad for the knowledge.

  9. shartne Said,

Actually your voltage must be more than 12 volts to bring the batteries up. I run about 18 to 19 volts. it will be difficult to bring the batteries up with only 12.5 volts.

  10. laidofftomass Said,

Those are great cheap solar panels. Dupont just released a well made solar panel that is 100 watts and around 1.20 per watt . Check them out at sunelec.com/index.php?main_page=dupont_da100_a1
Hope this helps other’s. As far as wind turbine’s I am very happy with the low wind output of the windmax hy-400 12v low wind model. I have tried all of the DYI and none of them compare

  11. MeanHacker Said,

nice! i’m just wondering, how did you make the mixcatcom theme song?

  12. RaulBillieJean Said,

@mixcatcom right on mate !!!! then you won’t have to give one cent to FPL !! please post the video when you done to show a little bit how you did it .. thanks !!!

  13. RileysWill Said,

would you say this type of solution is cost effective ? ive seen that they have been very expensive in the past.

  14. mixcatcom Said,

@TXCoindigger Thanks my friend I will check that out.
Wind is very interesting and I want to also tie that in as well.
    All the best,
    -Pete

  15. mixcatcom Said,

@RaulBillieJean Yeah I will be getting enough to power the house very soon.
I will video the whole process.

    It has all the details.

@watcher0777 These are 2nd gen panels and really not super advanced. I bought then because of a good sale for testing of solar and think for the price they are great. I wouldnt get 5 watt panels they are just to small but to charge a battery. Im looking into the newer tech too and should have a video on them very soon.
Hope you have a great weekend,
    -Pete

  19. mixcatcom Said,

@REXER1977 Thanks for the kind words.. I really enjoy working with Solar and power savers.. I will have some very interesting things coming up soon. I have a couple companies that make power savers I will be reviewing.
    All the best,

@scutter4christ Thanks Scutter for the kind words.. You have some super videos too.
Hope you have a great weekend,

Thanks pete. Your vids are always informative and interesting and we appreciate it!

Nice one Pete some great points there dude - thanks and good luck with your future projects and videos.
    Peace

  23. watcher0777 Said,

are you panels new or are they older tech? trying to learn about solar in order to make decent decisions. thinking smaller rv and mobile lifestyle to become proficient in sysyems. googled arizona to learn and the newer panel’s are possibly newer tech and more expensive? the invertors true synn wave is interesting and expensive. me not so techy so trying to learn. see the harbor freight below and can work things on line, they do not have much in stock here? have and old 5 watt panel.

  24. edstar83 Said,

    Nice Pete.

  25. jbranstetter04 Said,

“You can get a kit like? I have pretty cheap at harbor freight”

How much did it all cost? And how many square feet are the panels?
