Social Networks Here to Stay

Posted under environment by Alexis Wright

Would you have figured internet social networks would be as popular as they are today? In my personal opinion, they’re pretty much self-centered, but even businesses are jumping on board.

To me, it makes more sense for businesses to use social networks than it does for individuals. I don’t want to go online and post stuff about my private lift and I don’t want to read about the drama of other people’s private lives either. I took a course in college where we had to create a website with an “about me” scion. I hated that because I thought if people already knew me, they’d know those things about me, and if not, there was no reason for them to know.

It’s more practical for a business because it can get out the word about what different companies are doing to expand their business. What type of promotions are they running? For example: it’s good to know if a business has a buy-one-get-one free deal for something you need.

State and national companies have really taken off with the idea.

TXU electric company has tweeted about its “Pay-as-you-go” and “no-bull variable” plan. Other energy companies like Reliant Energy are running their own campaigns, like the one at the Ballpark in Arlington when the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros go head-to-head.

Reliant Energy will be there to hand out about 30,000 sunglasses at the game in attempt to set a Guinness Book of World Records for most sunglasses worn at night. The campaign is an attempt to launch its Solar Solutions program.

It’s remarkable how social networks can help increase popularity of content. When a magazine or newspaper publishes a well-written article, its popularity will increase with the more Twitter “tweets” and Facebook “likes” and it will also increase traffic to your site.

If I had a say in the matter, social networks would be left for business purposes, but it’s obviously not up to me. Whether we like it or not, social networks will be here for a long time, and there’s nothing any of us can do about it.
