Stan Micke and ECOsmarte Save Canyon West Golf Course

Stan Mickle has always striven to provide his customers with the best possible service. That’s why after four years of trying to improve his brown, unattractive golf course he decided to call in the big guns and contacted ECOsmarte. ECOsmarte is an environmentally friendly water processing company. Though ECOsmarte had previously only worked on swimming pools they agreed to take on the unique challenge of a golf course.

They found that Mr. Mickle’s golf course was a victim of its water supply. This area of Texas has extremely and naturally occurring hard water. The hardness of the water makes it very difficult to penetrate the soil surface and reach the roots of the grass. He tried using sulfur, a widely suggested solution, but he found this approach less than satisfactory. His grass remained brown and he was unhappy with both the cost and the harmful environmental impact.

Upon review, the problem was fairly straight forward. High surface tension was preventing his water from penetrating the soil. Surface tension, as measured in dynes, can be reduced. To ensure a successful solution, Mr. Mickle needed water with less than 60 dynes. ECOsmarte believed that their technology might be the answer but the scale of Mr. Mickle’s golf course was beyond the scope of the ECOsmarte’s past application experience.

The stakes were high for Mickle, not only was his course unappealing to his customers but it lowered the scenic quality of the whole area, thus attracting the ire of surrounding businesses.

However, fortunately within three months of beginning the treatment Mickle’s Canyon West golf course was starting to look a lot better with long stretches of green where the course had previously been barren. Water was distributed more equally removing the dry/wet patches that had previously spoiled the course.

Looking at Canyon West golf course today you’ll have a hard time believing that this was once a brown and barren piece of land, today it is home to some of the most beautiful stretches of green grass in the state.
