Why Organic Food Is Actually More Suitable For Your Health?
Posted under environment by Lee WongThe principle of “organic food” has been with us for countless years. Lately however, it is being more popular and has turned into quite a hype that is drawing many people into it. The organic food marketplace is doing very well because lots of men and women are taking an interest and they tend to be more expensive than non-organic food. Keeping all this in mind, the question has to be asked; is organic food dramatically beneficial or even necessary for our bodies? Is the high price regarding organic food justified?
Before I go ahead I need to clarify what is meant by organic. To be classed as organic it means that it is free from chemicals being added to it. Things like synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, fabricated fertilizers and pesticides may not be used with organic food. Organic meat, dairy and eggs have no growth hormones or antibiotics added to enhance production or growth.
If you want to sell food and need it to be called “organic”, there exists a requirement that the food has to be in produce for 3 years. For the initial two years the fertility of the ground must be developed and only after that are crops allowed to be grown. Essentially, producing organic food is no easy job and thus the price tag can be justified Then again, is all that laborious work worth it? What are the other important things about organic food?
It surely seems there are other advantages, as research has revealed that organic food is more nutritious. Researchers have discovered that milk taken from cows which were only given organic food had about 70% more Beta Carotene, 50% more Vitamin E and included twice as many natural antioxidants and more Omega 3 then cows that were given chemically enhanced food. Opting to use organic food will also be great for your general wellness as it contains no chemicals such as insecticides and other harmful substances. By not carrying these carcinogenic substances the food is better for your health. The next benefit is a matter of opinion, as a lot of people say organic food tastes better than non organic, but again you cannot state this as a fact since its down to ones own preferences.
Primarily using organic food will in addition have a favorable effect on our environment. Harsh chemicals such as insecticides all accumulate to have a negative effect on our environment. This can be avoided by using organic food. Pollution is adding to the important problem of global warming, however organic farming keeps pollution to a minimum which is great news. Also, it is important to observe that when farm animals are fed on organic food they are also usually treated well so that they will also produce well. Unlike the small cages and the force feeding procedures found on many other farms, organically fed animals tend to be “free range” and are allowed to walk around in open areas.
The main points are quite obvious; organic food is better for the environment, the welfare of the animals and undoubtedly for your health. Now its just up to you to make the final choice. Of course, as mentioned at the beginning, the price of organic food can be much higher then standard food. But always remember that when buying on the organic market you are doing something good for yourself and for the environment so personally I feel it is a small price to pay.
