We Can Help the Environment
Posted under environment by Martin TroughtonEnvironment means the area in which you live. This can mean your house as well as the planet itself. When we talk about the planet, we are talking about the natural environment. More people are concerned about our natural environment every day. There is good reason for this, because we have not been concerned enough for a long time.
Most of us have heard the phrase that one should take only photos and leave only footprints when visiting a remote area in nature. However, the way humans have lived on this planet in recent years has far exceeded that advice. Long gone are the days when the Native Americans used to consider how their actions would affect the people who would come in seven generations.
We put things into the environment on a daily basis that affects it, some for good and some not. All products used become part of the environment in one way or another. For instance, anything that comes in a spray becomes part of our air. And you may have noticed that asthma and a variety of respiratory ills are on the rise.
Every cleaning product or other chemicals that we use end up in both the water and the ground. And what ends up in the ground and in the water ends up in our food and in us. It is a cycle that has been repeating itself in our recent history and may well play a large part in the increased health problems such as cancers that are cropping up.
Although there has been a lot of controversy over the subject of global warming, scientists who believed in it have not relented. Finally, it is being largely accepted as a real phenomenon and one that rightly should cause concern.
Individuals are also becoming more conscious of environmental issues. And more people are thinking about what they can do to keep the problems from getting worse.
One thing we can do as individuals is to start replacing toxic products with natural ones, such as our cleaners. These will be better for our personal health, as it will reduce the toxins in our home environment. It wills also reduce the toxins in our natural environment, to the benefit of all.
Fossil fuel reduction helps to lessen the amount of pollution. Using solar power, for instance, will require a greater investment initially but will save you money further down the line. And it is certainly far better for the environment.
Reducing waste products is also a huge help and can save you money too. For example, investing in a water filter will allow you to fill your own bottles rather than putting a lot of plastic in the garbage.
It can take a little time to adjust our habits from a society based on consumption. But the end result will be savings for us personally as well as a safer and cleaner environment for us all.
