Posted under solar power by Mike RichterSolar panels are a great way to interact more positively with your world. They use just a tiny fraction of the near-infinite energy that the sun gives us every day to power our lives. Supposedly you can generate enough energy to power your house and make money on your electric bill at the same time. Most people see the benefits of having a solar system, but they pale when they see the $25,000 dollar price tag. On the other hand, a few people have discovered that they can build their own solar panels, and save a ton of money, and gain all the benefits of solar power. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Buy a good instruction manual. I can’t emphasize this enough. Unless you’re already an expert, you probably won’t be able to pull this off with nothing more than a 4 minute YouTube clip. Installing this system is going to save you thousands; don’t skimp on 50 bucks upfront that will make the difference between a functioning system or not.
2. Research solar cells online. The solar cell is the main component of the system; it’s something that you can’t make on your own. Fortunately, they’re really cheap to manufacture. You should be able to find something online for around $70 per panel.
3. Take a trip to the hardware store. Everything else you need is going to cost you around $30 per panel. Some people suggest that it will cost even less. Your manual should have detailed instructions on specifically what you need. You’ll also have to pick up the electronics you need to convert your energy into standard 120V AC power.
4. Have a barn raising! Call your friends, neighbors, and kids and make a family weekend project out of it. Everybody who hears what you’re up to will want to come check it out. Use all that help to get your system ready to go!
So there you have it. It’s actually very easy and affordable to build your own solar panals. Now it’s time to get of the web and get it done. You’ll be saving money on your bills and helping the earth in no time.
