my solar tracker, tracking system, sun power energy
Posted under solar power homes by soloarpowerhomeadminhome made solar tracker, this is my first solar tracker . uses old C band sattelite mount modifide and use a electronics from redrok.com 2 x 110 W panels + 5 x 10 W panels
Ya looks great. what tracker is it cause I have a c band mount and motor for mine but done have a tracker yet.
Cool tracking system. What’s that shadow on your left panel? Even a partial shadow like that really reduces the amount of power you get. (Way more than just the percentage of the panel that’s in shadow.)
update ::
i found out that rain water was getting in the motor.

on 8-10-2009 my tracking rig stop working
i took the motor down and open it grease it all check brushes and they was ok ,put it all together a mount it back
and it is working again
I went to the webpage where they sell the tracker, which tracker are you using? is it the LED3 LED Sensor Electronic Tracker with H-Bridge Drive?

nice tracker man, i wish i was at the point where i could get one. i just built my system and worked on getting it operational and havn’t even got the panels mounted yet.
Where did you get the tracking sensor ?
no only one of the small 10W panels charging battery in garage and the tracker is powered from that .:)
so, you use those 5 solar panels for the tracking system??? thats a waste of power…

It depends on the time of day and year as to whether the shading effects the production.
just FYI it only takes a little bit of shading on a seris of cells in one pannel to completely wipe it out… and the one on the left is at least a third shaded..

I am not trying to be picky or show-you up, but most people use the term “tracking the Sun” instead of “trucking”. Just thought I’d mention it, so if you change your keywords on your video, more people might be helped by your video. Cheers, well done on great explanation and showing your set up!

well i am in Greenville S.C USA and we dont have very strong winds ,but this mount is strong that i can hang on it and is not going to do anything and it will still truck the sun
The Motor (linear actuator) from the old sattelite is indestructible :)and very strong .
What is the max wind resistance? I live in the mountains of southern Spain and the winds can get above 70 kph. I have tried two wind turbines and both blew away! The solar panels I have are fixed to the top of a flat roof - very secure but not ideal for sun collection. A sturdy tracking system would be great.
septic, you would be surprised what those actuators can do. I have a pretty heavy boiler mounted on mine with no problems. You can add counterweights to ease the load too. Look at Newtonian style telescopes for ideas on counterweights.
nice work. i have been thinking about a design using one pump motor, two hydrolic rams,some electricly activated valves,and a pivot mounted on a rotor to control a parabolic solar collector for my soon to be solar/steam turbine/generator…hope to start building soon..
and guys if you see in the video behind where you see the C band dish laing on the ground i have ready another mount on steel pipe 16 feet in the hight
and i have there 2 axis trucking ready 
and the orginal linear motor that was on the mount stayed the same like for the Cband dish ,i just adjusted the stop limits inside the motor to by able to turn as mutch it was posible
4 wires from the electronics , two positive and negative to battery , and two to motor . and it it working great ,it is adjustig themself every minute to point to sun

the C-band satelitte mount was only modifide to mount the solar panels ,so i just cut some parts out and weld 1.5 inch x 1.5 inch steel angles two long ones 102 inches horizontal, to by able take another two big solar panels
