    maybe environmentally, but economically, you can skip the 10k or so investment in the transfer switch and grid tie inverter and use it to add almost 2 kw more solar panels to your system.

    also, in grid tied system, when the power grid goes offline, so do your solar panels. (by law, it all has to shut down for the safety of linemen working to repair the grid). so you still have to have a gasoline or diesel generator to backup your $50-60k solar system

    the lead is 100% recyclable (and there are many battery recycling operations around, not hard to get rid of old batteries)

    and the acid is simply dilute sulfuric acid, which is harmless when diluted farther by water and base chemicals.

    not seeing the problem here.

    It makes more sense economically and environmentally to stay connected to the grid and not use batteries, instead of wasting energy charging batteries you can sell the electricity back to the power companies so other people can use it this takes some of the load off of traditional power plants and reduces co2 emissions etc.
